This detailed forecast displays the predicted visibility and intensity of the Aurora Borealis for your location over the next 3 days. It only shows predictions for nighttime hours when the Northern Lights can be actually visible. The forecast is color-coded, ranging from gray (little to no activity) to orange/red (high activity and visibility). Check this regularly in the evenings to see the chances of spotting the Aurora tonight.
27-Day Forecast
For those planning an Aurora hunting trip, the 27-day forecast provides an extended outlook. While not as precise as the 3-day forecast, it gives you an idea of the potential for increased solar wind and geomagnetic activity that could lead to visible Northern Lights. In the Auroras section of the map, you'll see pins marking where other users have reported spotting and sharing the Northern Lights. Tap on a pin to see details like the date, time, shape and color of the Aurora that was visible. This can help you determine the best areas to watch for potential shows.
Places
The Places section shows the optimal spots for viewing and photographing the Auroras near you. Tap a blue pin to see a photo of the location, a description, the level of light pollution, how far it is from you and tips from other hunters. Some locations may be more accessible or open longer hours, so check details for each spot.
How to share the best Northern Lights viewing spots?
The app also provides the possibility to share the best places to see Northern Lights. Each shared location shows information about the level of light pollution, access difficulty, navigation via 3rd party apps, location photo and description.
How to share the new place with other hunters? You just found a new great spot for Aurora viewing.
1. Take a photo of the northern view.
2. Open the Lumyros app and open the interactive map, click on places, and click on the button "Add Location".
3. Upload the photo you just took.
4. Describe how it looks there, how to get there, why is this place great for Aurora viewing and any additional information you think might be important.
5. Select how difficult it is to get there and how much light pollution is around you.
6. Click "Submit".
The app will add the new place to the interactive map and the social feed. Please Note: When adding a new location, do that, when you are actually there as when you hit the "Submit" button your current GPS location will be applied to the new place. This is to ensure that you are sharing a place you have actually been.
Photos
In the Photos section, green pins mark the locations where users have captured and shared their Aurora photos. Tap a pin to see info about the photo like the date, time and camera settings used. Viewing photos from the areas you plan to watch or visit can give you an idea of the types of shows and activity you might see.
